Carbon Footprint 2024: Measuring and Managing Our Environmental Impact

At METRICA, for the third consecutive year, we have carried out the measurement of our 2024 Carbon Footprint from our central headquarters in Spain, following the international GHG Protocol standard.

In today’s world, where sustainability and environmental responsibility are more important than ever, measuring a company’s carbon footprint has become a key tool for organizations committed to building a more conscious and resilient future. At METRICA, we have launched our Carbon Footprint 2024 assessment—now in its third year—conducted from our headquarters in Spain using the globally recognized GHG Protocol standard.

This effort allows us to identify, manage, and reduce our emissions while reinforcing our commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to a more environmentally responsible business model.

What is a carbon footprint, and why is it important to measure it?

A carbon footprint is an indicator that calculates the total amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions—both direct and indirect—released into the atmosphere as a result of an organization’s activities. In a business context, this includes internal operations, energy consumption, employee travel, contracted services, and other emission-generating activities.

Measuring the carbon footprint is essential to:

  • Understand the actual environmental impact of an organization

  • Establish effective emission reduction strategies

  • Comply with increasingly strict environmental regulations

  • Demonstrate a clear commitment to sustainability to clients, partners, and investors

GHG Protocol: The Global Standard for Emissions Measurement

At METRICA, we use the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol, the most widely recognized international framework for calculating and reporting GHG emissions. Developed by the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), this methodology classifies emissions into three scopes (Scope 1, 2, and 3), offering a structured and complete view of our environmental impact.

This robust framework enables us to perform rigorous and comparable assessments in alignment with the highest international standards.

METRICA’s Environmental Sustainability Progress

The 2024 carbon footprint measurement, conducted from our Spanish headquarters, forms a critical part of METRICA’s broader sustainability strategy. Based on the data collected, we are implementing several key initiatives:

  • Revising and strengthening our Emissions Reduction Plan with clear goals for 2030

  • Providing targeted internal training to raise awareness and build capacity around sustainable practices

  • Embedding environmental objectives into our overall corporate strategy to ensure that growth goes hand in hand with responsibility

  • Evaluating emission offset projects as part of our roadmap toward progressive decarbonization

These actions all contribute to our long-term objective: achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050—a balanced state in which the emissions we generate are fully absorbed or offset.

A Shared Commitment That Starts Within

Sustainability at METRICA is not a standalone initiative or a one-time declaration—it is a shared responsibility embedded in our culture. We believe that true positive impact comes when everyone within the organization is actively involved.

The 2024 carbon footprint measurement is not an endpoint but a launching pad for continued progress. Evaluate, reduce, and offset: these are the three levers guiding our decisions and reinforcing our role as a tech company committed to building a sustainable future.
